What is Business Therapy?
Business therapy happens when I work with you to solve the problems that come from inside your business, such as dealing with problem employees or fighting with your business partner. I provide you with a safe and confidential place to solve these problems. I can help you stop fighting. I can help you figure out how to deal with problem employees as well sort through ideas and plans you may have for your business, but don’t know where to start.
Why Business Therapy?
In today’s economy, it’s harder than ever to succeed in business. Margins are slim, competition is fierce, and you play a very important role in making stuff go. Business owners create jobs and community and grow the economy. When you find that bickering or being stuck in one spot keeps you from being on top of your game, business therapy can help.
How is business therapy different from psychotherapy?
Business therapy is not psychotherapy. I will not ask you to talk about your childhood or to analyze your past failures endlessly. Instead, I use my skills and perspective as a therapist to come up with new ways to solve your business problems and get past the roadblocks. If you and your business partners or employers are unable to communicate, I work with you to get you talking and listening to one another again.
Are you a Therapist?
Yes, I am a licensed therapist. I found my niche working with businesses because I absolutely love the entrepreneurial spirit and am fascinated by all of the dynamics and details that go into running a business. I have years of experience working with groups and families and years ago, I worked in a family business. I was pleased to discover that the therapy skills I learned working with groups and families made it easier for me to help business owners cut through the bickering that weighs them down.
I have a gift for getting arguing partners to talk to each other, providing the questioning, reflecting and the reframing necessary to help you resolve your differences. I am also very good at spotting subtle blocking beliefs or behaviors that may be preventing you from taking your business to the next level.
How is business therapy different from mediation?
Mediation generally involves lawyers and often (but not always) involves the dissolution of a business and other legal matters. Business therapy helps partners resolve conflicts and improve communication. I do not address the legal matters concerning your business, as I am not an attorney.
Where does business therapy take place?
Sessions take place at my office, 2009 V Street, in Midtown Sacramento. I prefer to work with business owners at my office only, for several reasons. Getting away from your workplace helps you get the perspective you need to work on the problems that plague your business. It also creates a neutral space where business partners can resolve their arguments. Lastly, it is hard for business owners to get away from ringing telephones, customers and employees. My office provides a quiet, confidential space where we can work without interruptions.
At some point, you may want me to come to your workplace to observe interactions between employees or to provide a presentation. I do provide these services on a case-by-case basis.
